About This Version
NOTE: The IXOS Viewer is not part of the MIT SAPgui 6.20 for Windows installer. If you need the IXOS viewer functionality, you will need to download the
MIT IXOS Client for SAPgui and install it AFTER the SAPgui.
WARNING: Downloading the MIT SAPgui 6.20 for Windows installer over a dialup network connection, such as Tether, will take from 2 to 4 hours, or longer. It is not recommended.
If you need this software and connecting directly to MITnet is not practical, send email to
computing-help@mit.edu . We will try to provide a more convenient way for you to get the software.
System Requirements
- Computer/Processor: Pentium III 600 Mhz or higher
- Operating System: Windows XP Professional (SP1 or higher), or Windows 2000 Professional (SP4 or higher)
- Memory: 256 MB or greater recommended for Windows XP or 2000
- Disk Space:
- 50 MB of available disk space for SAPgui installer
- 150 MB of available disk space for SAPgui software
- Additional requirements:

When the download is complete, find the file "MIT-SAPgui6.20-Win-Installer.exe".
Installing MIT SAPgui 6.20 for Windows
NOTE: The IXOS Viewer is not part of the MIT SAPgui 6.20 for Windows installer. If you need the IXOS viewer functionality, you will need to download the MIT IXOS Client for SAPgui and install it AFTER the SAPgui.
Before You Begin …
Prior to launching this installer, please complete the following preparatory steps:
- Check that Kerberos for Windows 2.1.1 or later (preferably the latest) is installed.
- Check that Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher is installed.
- For the Windows XP Professional operating system, verify SP1 or higher is installed.
- For the Windows 2000 operating system, verify SP4 or higher is installed – Note: Windows XP Pro is recommended.
- Logon as "Administrator" or a user account with "Administrator rights".
- Uninstall "MIT SAPgui for Windows 4.6" via "Add/Remove Programs" from the Control Panel.
NOTE: During the uninstall, the message, "Could not open INSTALL.LOG file.", appears. Ignore this message. Click on "OK" and the uninstall will continue.

Using MIT SAPgui 6.20 for Windows
Installed Folder Contents
The installer creates a folder called SAP in the Programs group. Under the Start menu in the Programs group, it creates a group called SAP Frontend.
The SAP Frontend folder contains the following connection items:

NOTE: If you have changed the names of any of the connection icon names in an earlier SAPgui installation and wish to continue using those names with this installation, you will have to make the changes after the installation is complete.
New Logon to SAP R/3
- You need to get Kerberos tickets:
- To start the new SAPgui with load balancing, you have 2 choices:
Either:
- Double click on the SAPgui Shortcut of your choice from the SAP Frontend folder, e.g. "Production";
Or:
- Double click on "SAP-Logon".
- Result: SAP Logon Pad appears.
- It is also reflected in the task bar at the bottom of the screen on the far right.
- Select the SAPgui icon of your choice, e.g. "Production".
- Result: The new SAP Easy Access screen appears. At the left of this screen is a hierarchical menu from which you can pick the particular functions you want to use. To enter the MIT Financial System area, click on the arrow beside Role ZMIT.
