About This Version
NOTE: The IXOS Viewer is not part of the MIT SAPgui for Windows installer. If you need the IXOS Viewer functionality, you will need to download and install the latest
MIT SAPgui for Windows Installer FIRST and then proceed with the installation of the IXOS Viewer.
WARNING: Downloading the MIT IXOS 5.1D installer over a dialup network connection, such as Tether, will take from 1 to 2 hours, or longer. It is not recommended.
If you need this software and connecting directly to MITnet is not practical, send email to
computing-help@mit.edu . We will try to provide a more convenient way for you to get the software.
System Requirements
- Computer/Processor: Pentium III 600 Mhz or higher
- Operating System: Windows XP Professional (SP1 or higher), Windows 2000 Professional (SP4 or higher)
- Memory: 256 MB or greater of RAM recommended for Windows XP or 2000
- Disk Space:
- 15 MB of available disk space for IXOS client installer
- 50 MB of available disk space for IXOS client software
- Additional requirements:
- Internet Explorer (IE) 6.0 or greater, Netscape 7.02 optional
- Adobe Acrobat Reader or Acrobat ver 5.0.5 or greater
- SAPgui 6.20 or greater
- MIT Certificates

Installing MIT IXOS 5.1D Windows Viewer for SAP
The IXOS Viewer is not part of the MIT SAPgui 6.20 for Windows installer. If you need the IXOS Viewer functionality, you will need to download the latest
MIT SAPgui for Windows Installer FIRST and then proceed with the installation of the IXOS Viewer.
Before you begin …
Prior to launching this installer, please complete the following preparatory steps:
- Check that Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher is installed.
- For the Windows XP Professional operating system, verify SP1 or higher is installed.
- For the Windows 2000 operating system, verify SP4 or higher is installed - note Windows XP Pro is recommended.
- Check that Adobe Acrobat Reader or Acrobat ver 5.0.5 or higher are installed.
- Check that SAPgui 6.20 or higher is installed.
- Logon as "Administrator" or a user account with "Administrator rights".
- Uninstall any prior IXOS Viewer installation. (NOTE: This is only necessary for users that MANUALLY installed IXOS in the past).
NOTE: The installer will test for the above conditions. If the installer encounters any errors, it will stop and display an error message. Additionally, an installation log called "MIT-IXOS5.1D-SAP-Win-Install.log" is written to the "\Program Files\IXOS" directory.
- In addition the new IXOS client requires the MIT CA (Certificate Authority) to be installed in your Internet Explorer certificate repository. Instructions on Importing the MIT CA are provided at the end of this page.
Installation Instructions
- Logon as "Administrator" or with a user account with "Administrator rights".
- Before the installation begins, shut down any other programs that are running.
- Double click on the "MIT-IXOS5.1D-SAP-Win-Installer" icon

- Follow the on-screen installation instructions. The setup installs the IXOS 5.1D Viewer in the folder "C:\Program Files\IXOS".
- At the end of the installation, click on Finish to leave the installer program. After the installation completes, your computer should "Restart".
- When the installation is complete, remember to "Trash" the installer.
Using the new IXOS Viewer
IXOS Self Launches
- The IXOS Viewer window will start automatically when an archived document request is sent from the SAP application.
- The first time you attempt to retrieve an IXOS document you may receive a "Security Alert" window:
- In this situation, please ensure the MIT Certificate Authority has been installed in the Internet Explorer Certificate repository
Importing the MIT Certificate Authority
Execute the following steps to import the MIT CA in your Internet Explorer Certificate repository:
- Open Internet Explorer and enter the following URL: http://bs.mit.edu/mitca.ca
- Click on "open"
- Click on "Install Certificate"
- Click on "Next"
- Click on "Next"
- Click on "Finish"
- Click on "Yes"
- Confirm all following windows
